How are you doing?” We hear these lines almost every time, and most of us would just answer the usual “I’m fine.” But not today because today we’ll be taking a pause to discuss how are you really doing emotionally. In this last chapter of our Wellness Blog Series, we’ll be talking about emotional health, its meaning, its warning signs, and the ways in how to keep it in check. Ready? READ!

 

WHAT IS EMOTIONAL HEALTH?

Emotional health is one of the features of our wellness that deals with how we think plus how we feel. It measures our ability to cope up with positive and negative emotions while staying aware of those feelings. To sum it up, emotional health is all about emotional awareness and regulation.

 

KNOW THE WARNING SIGNS

Negative emotions are also important to keep our sensitivity in balance. However, there are some people whose negative emotions dominate the other group. Here are some warning signs of emotional health that we need to know:

  • Overlooking personal hygiene
  • Feeling irritability, guilt, hopelessness, or worthlessness
  • Having discord with social circles
  • Poor performance at work
  • Overthinking
  • Increased use of substances
  • Eating and sleeping too much or too little
  • Lesser energy
  • Detaching yourself from co-workers and loved ones

Share some time with friends and family members either virtually or in person.

Speak Kindly To Yourself

Words have creative powers. Take a minute or two to talk with yourself about positive things.

Be Resilient

Knowledge is power. Read and learn about strategies on how to go on about emotional health.

Meditate

Meditation increases your self-awareness. This gives you the ability to be mindful of your thoughts and feelings.

Reach Out For Help

Some of the negative emotions can be very overwhelming. The good news is that you don’t have to sort them out by yourself. Know when to take part in support groups or to seek help from health professionals.

Rest Well

Allow yourself to get enough sleep, take a break, or unwind after achieving any task. A well-rested body will bring about good emotions.

Exercise

Physical activity releases endorphins all over your body, which means you’ll have better feelings when you exercise.

Look Forward To Something

Challenge yourself to achieving something. This provides you with a purpose that distracts you from negative emotions.

Nurture Your Hobbies

Most of the time, our personal hobbies are our go-to activities whenever we feel down. So, we might as well spend more time nurturing them while making ourselves feel good.

 

Emotions are few of the many things in life that we can’t get rid of, and that is a good thing. They are symphonies of our mind and spirit that intensifies our lives during our ups and downs. At times, they become unbearable. But since they are just mere symphonies, they can be arranged just the way you want them to sound. The best way to keep yourself emotionally healthy is by knowing what you can and can’t do about it. Let this be starter to your healthier journey.
